Catherine O’Hara was posthumously honored with the award for best female actor in a comedy series at the recent Actor Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. The renowned Canadian comedic actress passed away on January 30 at the age of 71 due to a blood clot in her lung, in addition to secretly battling rectal cancer.

O’Hara clinched the award for her portrayal of Patty Leigh, a seasoned former studio executive in the satirical Apple TV comedy series “The Studio.” She triumphed over a lineup of esteemed actors, including Jenna Ortega for “Wednesday,” Jean Smart for “Hacks,” Kristen Wiig for “Palm Royale,” and Kathryn Hahn for her role in “The Studio.”

During the awards ceremony, the audience erupted into cheers and gave a standing ovation as O’Hara was announced as the winner. Seth Rogen, co-creator of “The Studio,” accepted the award on her behalf and praised O’Hara’s talent, generosity, and dedication to enhancing their collaborative work.

Rogen shared an anecdote highlighting O’Hara’s commitment to excellence, recounting how she would often provide rewritten versions of scenes the night before filming, consistently elevating the quality of the production. He emphasized O’Hara’s ability to combine genius with kindness, inspiring everyone around her.

Aside from O’Hara’s individual win, “The Studio” dominated the comedy categories at the event, securing victories for best comedy series and best actor for Rogen’s performance. O’Hara’s illustrious career spanned iconic comedic roles in SCTV skits, beloved films like “Home Alone” and “Beetlejuice,” and her unforgettable portrayal of Moira Rose in “Schitt’s Creek.”

Before her passing, O’Hara had previously received two Actor Awards for her exceptional work on “Schitt’s Creek,” earning recognition for best actress in a comedy series and best ensemble in a comedy series with the rest of the cast.
