Author Rachel Reid has announced a postponement of the release of her upcoming hockey romance novel, “Unrivaled,” due to the challenges posed by her newfound fame and the progression of Parkinson’s disease symptoms. Initially scheduled for a fall release, Reid revealed in a recent Instagram video that the book’s launch is now expected to be pushed back to June 2027.
“Unrivaled” will mark the seventh installment in the popular “Game Changer” series, focusing on the tale of hockey rivals turned secret lovers, Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov. The series’ first two books, “Heated Rivalry” and “The Long Game,” have already been adapted into the successful Crave original series, starring Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie, catapulting Reid to significant publishing stardom.
In her Instagram message, Reid expressed her desire for “Unrivaled” to be of the highest quality, acknowledging the recent changes in her life that have hindered her writing process. She emphasized the importance of dedicating sufficient time to ensure the book meets her standards, stating, “And there’s nothing more important to me than ‘Unrivaled’ being the best book it can possibly be.”
Reflecting on the recent turn of events, Reid shared, “For me, that’s been that my Parkinson’s symptoms have gotten a bit worse, and it’s made it difficult physically to write, so I’m definitely a lot slower.” The author disclosed that she was first diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2023, coinciding with director Jacob Tierney’s interest in adapting her literary works.
Tierney’s adaptation of Reid’s novels has garnered significant success, securing a renewal for a second season on Crave and HBO Max, where it emerged as the top-rated series during its debut season. Despite the delays in her writing process, Reid remains committed to delivering a compelling continuation of the beloved “Game Changer” series to her eager readers.
