Actor Kiefer Sutherland was taken into custody early Monday following an incident involving a ride-hail driver in Los Angeles. The authorities received a report of an assault just past midnight at the Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Ave. intersection near Hollywood Hills.
The Los Angeles Police Department stated that the 59-year-old award-winning Canadian actor allegedly physically attacked the driver and made criminal threats towards them after entering the ride-hail vehicle. Fortunately, the driver did not sustain any injuries requiring medical attention at the time.
Sutherland was arrested on suspicion of criminal threats and later released on a $50,000 US bond from jail a few hours after the incident. His initial court appearance is set for Feb. 2, based on jail records. Attempts to reach out to Sutherland’s representatives for comment went unanswered.
Best recognized for his portrayal of federal agent Jack Bauer in the television series “24” and various spinoffs, Sutherland also appeared in notable films like “The Lost Boys,” “Young Guns,” “Stand by Me,” and “A Few Good Men.” He comes from a family of actors, being the son of Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas, and the grandson of former Saskatchewan premier Tommy Douglas, renowned for introducing universal healthcare in Canada.
